Kyneton Bowling Club
The collective effort and shared vision of everyone involved have set Kyneton Bowling Club on a path to becoming a more sustainable and vibrant community hub, ready to thrive for years to come.
Kyneton Bowling Club
Kyneton Bowling Club, a cornerstone of its community for decades, was facing a familiar set of challenges—limited volunteer resources, a lack of clear roles, and difficulty maintaining sustainable operations. Determined to take action, the club’s committee and volunteers rallied together to embrace change, setting a new course for the club’s future.
Through both a Planning and Implementation Workshop held with CLUBMAP, the Kyneton Bowling Club committee identified gaps in its structure and took proactive steps to address them.
“We now have a solid document with clear guidelines on what steps to take and where to find resources, whether it’s position descriptions or training videos,” shared Christine, the club's Treasurer. “It’s given us so much more than I could have even dreamt of getting.”
Transforming Challenges into Opportunities
Before this transformation, meetings often lacked direction and decisions were made on the fly. Roles were vague, making it hard for the club to delegate effectively or keep track of progress. However, instead of shying away from the challenge, the committee leaned in and committed to a comprehensive overhaul.
“We’ve got firm direction and names to responsibilities that we didn’t have before,” Christine explained.
The club embraced a new committee structure that not only clarified roles but also made it easier to recruit new volunteers, by providing a clear picture of what each position entails. This structure will now be referred to at every board meeting, ensuring the club stays on track and that members are held accountable.
“When I put everything down on paper, it was clear that there were a lot of people already doing a lot of things,” Paula, the club's Chairperson shared. “But there are other areas we still needed help with, and that’s where we needed to bring in more people.”
This visual structure made it easier for the committee to approach new volunteers, showing them exactly where they could contribute and how their roles would fit into the bigger picture of the club’s operations.
With CLUBMAP's support, the club is also looking into a government-supported volunteer program targeting individuals over 55.
Harnessing the Passion of Volunteers
Kyneton Bowling Club’s willingness to try new approaches and embrace change has been key to its revitalisation. The committee and volunteers have shown that by being open to new ideas, even the most entrenched issues can be overcome.
“We’ve made a lot of headway and we can implement everything on here,” Christine said. “To be honest, I think if we put our heads down, we’ll certainly make some inroads, for sure.”
With this strong foundation, the club is now focused on expanding its volunteer base, enhancing community engagement, and refining its membership and fundraising strategies. The committee is looking forward to sustaining the momentum they’ve built and continuing to grow.
The journey hasn’t been easy, but thanks to the dedication of Kyneton Bowling Club’s passionate committee, the club is more structured, organised, and prepared for the future.
The collective effort and shared vision of everyone involved have set Kyneton Bowling Club on a path to becoming a more sustainable and vibrant community hub, ready to thrive for years to come.
